The Case for Getting Government Out of Marriage

Given the recent Supreme Court decision regarding gay marriage we have seen a hug upheaval from those on all sides of the issue. We have seen the far left gay activists heading off of the deep end as they rub it in the faces of Christian conservatives.  We have also seen many on the far right become quite nervous as to how this ruling will affect religious institutions such as private schools, hospitals, and most importantly houses of worship. Many think that fear is far-fetched and unwarranted.

Let’s take a look at Chief Justice John Roberts dissent regarding the gay marriage ruling as referenced in the NYT Blog, "Religious Liberty is the Rallying Cry after Gay Marriage"

But in his dissent, Chief Justice John Roberts predicted a clash ahead between religious freedom and same-sex marriage. He specifically noted the dilemma for religious colleges that provide married student housing, and adoption agencies that won't place children with gay couples.

"There is little doubt that these and similar questions will soon be before this court," Roberts wrote.

While we keep hearing that there is nothing to worry about, clearly the justices had considered the possible legal repercussions their ruling would have for many far removed from the two same sex individuals getting hitched. How will religious based institutions be treated if they refuse to hire those who do not fall in line with their beliefs?  Will the government actually use the force of law and begin prosecuting businesses for sticking to their deeply held religious beliefs?  This is precisely why the federal government should have never entered this arena in the first place, regardless of who is marrying who there is no right to marriage outlined in the Constitution.  As a result marriage law should reside at the state level and no higher.

As this debate becomes a major player in the upcoming presidential election we are beginning to see how the potential candidates are handling the issue.

According to The Hill,

The libertarian-leaning presidential hopeful walks a fine line in a new column in Time magazine between his support of traditional marriage and his calls for limited government by arguing that the government shouldn’t be licensing marriage in the first place.

I’m not sure what all of the other candidates stances are so far on this issue but this is definitely a stance I can get behind. As with many other issues, Rand Paul takes the liberty stance here which is to keep government out of it.  We need someone in office who will fight to get government out of arenas like this and back to dealing with issues outlined in the Constitution.

Paul goes on to further clarify his libertarian stance,

“The government should not prevent people from making contracts but that does not mean that the government must confer a special imprimatur upon a new definition of marriage,” he writes.

Paul warns that the Supreme Court could “involve the police power of the state in churches, schools, church hospitals” if those religious institutions don’t comply with the court’s recent decision.

“I acknowledge the right to contract in all economic and personal spheres, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t a danger that a government that involves itself in every nook and cranny of our lives won’t now enforce definitions that conflict with sincerely felt religious convictions of others,” he writes.

This is something the activists fail to realize when they go on their quests for things like gay marriage, gun control, racial equality, etc. They petition the federal government to make laws to appease whatever their cause is while ignorantly refusing to look at the possible implications of those laws further down the road.  They also fail to see how those laws may be interpreted or twisted when a new group of politicians are elected into office.  This is why the founders designed a Constitution greatly limiting the powers placed on a central authority, the federal government, and as a result placed more power within each individual state.  Unless we get back to this mindset we are headed down the road to destruction.

The Rebirth of Libertarianism

Reason magazine has recently touched on a topic that has come to the forefront of politics as a whole, they spoke about a concept from economics referred to as the median voter. This concept is really quite simple as median is basically another term for middle, therefore this is referring to the voting block that resides in the middle.

Reason explains how a potential candidate for political office  may start far to the right or left and posses very staunch views he or she almost inevitably makes their way toward the center as an election approaches. This is due in large part to the idea of the median voter and the need for the potential cantidate to sway that ever growing voter block.

With so many politicians catering to special interests and current topics of the day such as government funded healthcare, gay marriage, the NSA, the Patriot Act, and I can go on; many millennials seem to be waking up to the idea of libertarianism.

This idea derived from the root word liberty is the idea that we need less government. It's really quite simple! The government was instituted to serve a specific set of purposes the most important being to protect against enemies foreign and domestic. The youth today are beginning to wake up to the fact that government has out stepped it's boundaries time and time again and the only way to reign it in is to vote in an individual with constitutional values and principles.

Reason also explains the impact many successful businesses like Google and Amazon are having on the youth of today! These successes are proving that the private market, not government, can spur much more innovation than government ever could.

Just look at the mess that Obamacare has turned out to be, had that been a private endeavor the website would of been working flawlessly. Take Amazon for example, they fulfill an almost unimaginable number of orders on a daily basis. Had a private sector corporation like Amazon been solely in charge of the healthcare website chances are it wouldn't have had nearly the problems we witnessed with the Obamacare website!

Let's just hope that as time goes on more and more millennials will continue to wake up to the overbearing government we are falling victim to. Let's hope that as the younger generation wises up to what's going on, they have the wherewithal to vote into office individuals that will restore this country to its founding core principals and the Constitution values!

Is This ISIS at Work in America?

By now the news has broke regarding the beheading of an employee of Vaughan Foods located in Moore Oklahoma. This is a horrific incident that unfortunately has seemed to take a backseat to the other news of the day.  One can only speculate as to why this may be.  Is it because the media is too afraid to touch on the possibility that a recent convert to Islam could commit such a heinous act?  Are they afraid to get people up in arms about the idea that this may very well be the beginning of a long war with ISIS on our own soil?

There are many things one can speculate about with regards to this tragedy.  But there are a few things that already seem ominously certain, the man was in deed a recent convert to Islam, he does have a prior rap sheet including prior arrests, and there are even reports that his man was shouting Islamist remarks as he beheaded one woman and stabbed another.

This self proclaimed Muslim individual will most likely not see the punishment he deserves as he is a member of a "protected class". What will most likely happen is this incident will be regarded as "workplace violence" and a list of excuses will be made to offset the idea that he may have indeed acted as a result of radical Islamic beliefs.  Will the authorities investigate his mosque?  Will they question his Imam? One can only hope that due diligence will be made to get to the bottom of this incident and it isn't just thrown under the rug as so many events are in this fast paced news cycle created by the progressives and the Obama administration.

Another aspect of this incident that will most likely go unreported or be misreported on is the fact that a law abiding citizen who according to reports is a sheriff had a concealed gun with him at the time and took down the assailant thus saving countless lives.  Will this be reported in such a fashion that shows the importance of lawful concealed carry in this country?  Or will the tables be flipped as they often are resulting in the man so many coming under scrutiny for actually shooting a murderer and saving the lives of the employees of his own company?

Obama Uses Ferguson to Bash America in Front of UN

This pathetic excuse of a president and albeit a self proclaimed "world leader" continues his blame America first style of foreign policy. This practice has become somewhat commonplace as our dictator in chief has traveled the world speaking out against American exceptionalism while doing everything in his power to bring America down to the same level of that of a third world country.

After all who are we to think we're better than anyone else?  Why should we reap the benefits of the hard work and sacrifice of our forefathers?  We the people of this country called America are the product of nearly 200 years of sacrifice going all the way back to the American Revolution.  This president has done more to reduce our influence in the world in 6 years then we have accomplished in the past 60!

The president took his bash America rhetoric to the main stage at the UN today as he explained that we have the same problems as the rest of the world by referencing the incidents that took place in Ferguson, Missouri.

The president explained,

"I realize that America’s critics will be quick to point out that at times we too have failed to live up to our ideals; that America has plenty of problems within our own borders. This is true. In a summer marked by instability in the Middle East and Eastern Europe, I know the world also took notice of the small American city of Ferguson, Missouri – where a young man was killed, and a community was divided."

"So yes, we have our own racial and ethnic tensions. And like every country, we continually wrestle with how to reconcile the vast changes wrought by globalization and greater diversity with the traditions that we hold dear."

This president uses a tragedy and subsequent riots to bring America down in front of leaders from around the world.   What he conveniently forgot to mention is that Ferguson is a direct result of his policies and the "fundamental transformation" he has set in motion in this country.  The president has done nothing to bring people together, instead he continues to stir the pot and drive racial tensions throughout the country.
