The Case for Getting Government Out of Marriage

Given the recent Supreme Court decision regarding gay marriage we have seen a hug upheaval from those on all sides of the issue. We have seen the far left gay activists heading off of the deep end as they rub it in the faces of Christian conservatives.  We have also seen many on the far right become quite nervous as to how this ruling will affect religious institutions such as private schools, hospitals, and most importantly houses of worship. Many think that fear is far-fetched and unwarranted. 

Let’s take a look at Chief Justice John Roberts dissent regarding the gay marriage ruling as referenced in the NYT Blog, "Religious Liberty is the Rallying Cry after Gay Marriage"

But in his dissent, Chief Justice John Roberts predicted a clash ahead between religious freedom and same-sex marriage. He specifically noted the dilemma for religious colleges that provide married student housing, and adoption agencies that won't place children with gay couples.

"There is little doubt that these and similar questions will soon be before this court," Roberts wrote.

While we keep hearing that there is nothing to worry about, clearly the justices had considered the possible legal repercussions their ruling would have for many far removed from the two same sex individuals getting hitched. How will religious based institutions be treated if they refuse to hire those who do not fall in line with their beliefs?  Will the government actually use the force of law and begin prosecuting businesses for sticking to their deeply held religious beliefs?  This is precisely why the federal government should have never entered this arena in the first place, regardless of who is marrying who there is no right to marriage outlined in the Constitution.  As a result marriage law should reside at the state level and no higher.

As this debate becomes a major player in the upcoming presidential election we are beginning to see how the potential candidates are handling the issue. 

According to The Hill,

The libertarian-leaning presidential hopeful walks a fine line in a new column in Time magazine between his support of traditional marriage and his calls for limited government by arguing that the government shouldn’t be licensing marriage in the first place.

I’m not sure what all of the other candidates stances are so far on this issue but this is definitely a stance I can get behind. As with many other issues, Rand Paul takes the liberty stance here which is to keep government out of it.  We need someone in office who will fight to get government out of arenas like this and back to dealing with issues outlined in the Constitution.

Paul goes on to further clarify his libertarian stance,

“The government should not prevent people from making contracts but that does not mean that the government must confer a special imprimatur upon a new definition of marriage,” he writes.

Paul warns that the Supreme Court could “involve the police power of the state in churches, schools, church hospitals” if those religious institutions don’t comply with the court’s recent decision.

“I acknowledge the right to contract in all economic and personal spheres, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t a danger that a government that involves itself in every nook and cranny of our lives won’t now enforce definitions that conflict with sincerely felt religious convictions of others,” he writes.

This is something the activists fail to realize when they go on their quests for things like gay marriage, gun control, racial equality, etc. They petition the federal government to make laws to appease whatever their cause is while ignorantly refusing to look at the possible implications of those laws further down the road.  They also fail to see how those laws may be interpreted or twisted when a new group of politicians are elected into office.  This is why the founders designed a Constitution greatly limiting the powers placed on a central authority, the federal government, and as a result placed more power within each individual state.  Unless we get back to this mindset we are headed down the road to destruction.

America's War on Christianity

This just keeps getting worse and worse as more Christian owned businesses are not only being shut down, the owners livelihoods are being completely ruined. The latest victim, this Oregon couple, owned a bake shop and they simply said that due to their Christian beliefs they couldn't bake a cake for a lesbian couple that requested their services. At no point were they derogatory, they some referenced their Christian beliefs as to why they couldn't perform the requested service.

Rather than speak out against the bakery and maybe utilize social media to demean the bakeries action, they went directly to the govt with their dispute. What happens next is utterly disgusting! The lesbian couple has filed a lawsuit with nearly 90 charges of how the bakeries refusal of service has caused them harm whether it be stress, weight gain, and a whole list of other ridiculous accusations.

As a result the couple who owned the obakery has since lost their shop and is now facing a $135,000 fine. It wasn't enough to simply take away their shop, the govt is now going after everything they have.

What has come of this country when people can no longer assert their religious beliefs anywhere. It's amazing that those who cry out for tolerance are the same ones who lack the same tolerance for people who may not agree with them. We are quickly becoming a country devoid of any religious liberty. The same religious liberty that so many, including my own family who fought for this country in the American Revolution, were willing to die for.

Maxine Waters Promotes Sharia Law in America

We constantly hear about sharia law and whether or not it should be allowed in the United States.  This is a topic that shouldn't even be up for debate in this country as we have a document that provides the outline for law and order in this country, the Constitution.  Within this document it is stated that government shall,

"Make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof."

As a result any attempt at implementing sharia law in the United States wouldn't simply be unlawful, it would be unconstitutional.  The problem here is that our own president no longer abides by the Constitution as he arbitrarily enforces laws, enforces only portions of laws that benefit his agenda, takes it upon himself to nationalize individuals who arrive in this country illegally, and the list goes on. As a result, how can you expect those the like of Maxine Waters to know what the Constitution is, let alone the Constitutional laws she is breaking by advocating the implementation of sharia law in America. 

In this video the pathetic Maxine Waters speaks about our Constitution and religious freedom. As stated before the Constitution gives us the freedom of religion and not the freedom from religion.  As a result Muslims, Christians, Jews, and anyone of faith has the right to practice their religion so long as it is not taking away the rights and freedoms of another individual.  This is where this morons stance on sharia law comes into play.

Siddiqi, issued this fatwa on Islamonline.net (the link has now dead, but did find it in theweb archives here).

“It is true that Islam stands for the sovereignty of Allah the Almighty and Allah’s rules are not limited to the acts of worship, they also include social, economic and political matters. By participating in a non-Islamic system, one cannot rule by that which Allah has commanded. But things do not change overnight. Changes come through patience, wisdom and hard work.

I believe that as Muslims, we should participate in the system to safeguard our interests and try to bring gradual change for the right cause, the cause of truth and justice. We must not forget that Allah’s rules have to be established in all lands, and all our efforts should lead to that direction.” 

If sharia law requires that everyone abide by it then how is that considered free?  I would love for the oh so intelligent, understanding, and culturally diverse, Maxine Waters explain to us just how that type of law is indeed Constitutional.  How does a law which basically implements a mandatory religion within this country work in accordance with the religious freedom we are guaranteed by our Constitution?

"She then went on to quote the Southern Poverty Law Center, who claims that “hate groups” are at an all-time high. It’s funny that they don’t list themselves as a hate group. Since they failed to do so, I’ll just add them to my list of hate groups. But Waters went on to say the “radical right” terrorism was growing. As of yet, I haven’t seen them fly planes into buildings or behead their enemies."

This couldn't be more true with regards to the entire misguided notion of hate groups in this country.  Maxine complains about how people are racially profiled in this country and how it has to end.  I agree that people should not be profiled solely based upon their race, but if race helps to separate a possible perpetrator from other individuals, then why couldn't race be used in conjunction with a whole list of other qualifications as part of the reason to so much as question an individual.  I am by no means saying round up Americans of a specific race or religion and intern them like the liberal hero FDR did. What I am saying is that if a person of interest happens to be of a specific race or religion that shouldn't be disregarded when attempting to locate the suspect.

The bottom line is that if we follow down the road Maxine Waters is outlining we will inevitably see the destruction of the Constitution and the end of this country as we know it.  We must not let sharia law become common place in American society as doing so goes against everything the founding fathers stood for with regards to freedom of religion and freedom in general.  The fight against radical islam is coming here whether we like it or not and the sooner Americans wake up to it and quash it while we still can, the better off we'll all be.

American Values

Over recent years with the growth in popularity of the liberal progressive and the self proclaimed hipster we have seen a steep decline in the number of young people who partake in faith based activities or attend a Church, Synagogue, or other Judeo-Christian type of religious institution.  This is a scary trend, and if it continues could result in troubling times for this country.

To truly understand this countries Judeo-Christian roots we must go back to the time this country was founded, and why it was founded.  One of the reasons many of the first colonists decided to make the arduous journey across the Atlantic to come here was for religious freedom.  Throughout Europe Christians were persecuted for their beliefs and they came here in search of religious freedoms they did not get in their home land.

As a result they came here with the mindset they could practice their religion free from persecution.  This was the mindset that inspired the founders to draft the documents that went on to shape the very framework of the country we live in today, a country that has stood for over 200 years.

Fast forward to the present day and the state of affairs in this country is becoming quite similar in comparison to what our ancestors left when they fled Europe roughly 250 years ago.  As the government under the current president, Barack Obama, and one of the most liberal slates of judges the supreme court has ever seen, continues to chip away at the founding document of this country the Constitution, we Christian conservatives are under attack  Our very values are being mocked and ridiculed as the government makes its way into places it shouldn't be in the first place.

Take the case regarding Hobby Lobby, the government through the "Obamacare" is attempting to force a company founded by individuals with strong Christian values to go against what they believe and offer contraception to their employees.  Many in this country feel that contraception is a so called "right".  This is where many liberal progressives get it wrong.  We as citizens aren't entitled to anything from the government other than the freedoms to pursue our own happiness.  When the government steps in and begins instructing specific entities to provide for others at the cost of ones labor or well being it infringes on anothers right to life, liberty and happiness.

As a result we must become keenly aware of the practices of the ever growing, tyrannical government that we are beginning to see develop.  As the government grows and influences various classes and groups of people they create dissidence between the masses and pit one group against another.  As the dissidence grows so does the fighting amongst the masses giving the government even more power to influence its citizens. To combat this we must teach the future citizens of this country what it means to be an American, and what this country was founded upon to instill in them the will to keep our faith and our values alive for many years to come.
